CAPTAIN AL SHINES AT SCOTTSVILLE –ONCE AGAIN!

The progeny of Klawervlei’s leading sire Captain Al have built up a superb record at Scottsville’s big race day. Sons and daughters of the champion sire have won each of the four G1 races on at least one occasion, and Captain Al once again enjoyed notable success at Scottsville’s big day of speed this past weekend.

The Klawervlei bred superstar Carry On Alice, a daughter of Captain Al, bid farewell to racing when landing the fifth G1 race of her career, when downing a star-studded field of fillies and mares in Saturday’s G1 SA Fillies Sprint.

It was a second win in the race for the five-year-old, who is now set to retire to stud, following a career which has seen Carry On Alice win 11 times and land at least one G1 race at ages two, three, four and five. Owned by Chris Van Niekerk, Dr Warner and Klawervlei Stud, Carry On Alice has been a once in a lifetime horse for connections and trainer Sean Tarry, and she will be missed by her legion of loyal fans.

The star mare’s previous G1 successes included the Betting World Cape Flying Championship, World Sports Betting Computaform Sprint, G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint and G1 SA Nursery. Carry On Alice also placed in seven other G1 races and is a real credit to her sire Captain Al.

Carry On Alice beat fellow Captain Al fillies The Secret Is Out and Jo’s Bond to give Captain Al a 1-3-4 finish in the 2017 G1 SA Fillies Sprint. (Remarkably, the first four home in this year’s SA Fillies Sprint were all bred at Klawervlei!)

Captain Al also went close in Saturday’s G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint, where his sons Search Party and Barbosa finished second and third.

Captain Al, damsire of previous G1 Gold Medallion winner Potent Power, is also broodmare sire of 2017 G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion third Al Mariachi.
