Klawervlei Stud, who are currently well clear on the South African breeders’ championship, have been enjoying a truly unforgettable season in 2016-2017.

The stud received notable credit at the recent Thoroughbred Breeders Awards, where Klawervlei bred and or raised horses picked up no fewer than eight Grade 1 winning awards!

Klawervlei’s success rate has been notably felt over the past twelve months following last year’s TBA Grade 1 awards ceremony. During that time frame, horses bred by the stud won no fewer than seven Grade One races. Added to this tally, is a further Grade 1 winner bred and raised on behalf of the BBP Syndicate making it eight Gr 1 wins in all.
Remarkably, this equates to Klawervlei Stud bred or raised horses winning no less than 30% of South Africa’s Gr 1 races in the past 12 months ! This is a truly phenomenal achievement and one unlikely to be repeated anytime soon.

Among the stars to have shone for Klawervlei are –

  • Always In Charge – Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion Gr1
  • Carry On Alice - World Sports Betting Computaform Sprint Gr1 and Cape Flying Championship Gr1
  • Edict Of Nantes – Investec Cape Derby Gr1
  • Just Sensual – World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas Gr1
  • Real Princess – City of Pietermaritzburg SA Fillies Sprint Gr1
  • The Secret Is Out – Allan Robertson Championship Gr1 (for the BBP Syndicate)
  • William Longsword – Grand Parade Cape Guineas Gr1

William Longsword (Wayne Marks)

This score includes a remarkable clean-sweep of the Cape’s Gr1 classics!
Klawervlei congratulates all the owners, trainers, jockeys and grooms connected to these thoroughbred stars.
