Klawervlei Stud’s beautifully bred young sire Coup De Grace has made the perfect start to his stud career- if these magnificent first foals are anything to go by!

Coup De Grace, who has been extremely popular since retiring to Klawervlei, covered an exceptional book of mares in his first season and the support looks well justified if these foals are anything to go by.

A high-class athlete, whose wins included the G2 Amsterdam Stakes and G3 Bay Shore Stakes, Coup De Grace is the only son of triple US champion sire Tapit at stud in South Africa.
The sire of more than 100 stakes winners (his tally includes 23 individual G1 winners), Tapit made waves at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale where his 17 yearlings to sell averaged just under $1 000 000.

Tapit, responsible for three of the last four Belmont Stakes winners, has been represented by no fewer than 17 stakes winners in 2017 thus far, including the G1 winners Tapwrit, Dream Dancing and Cupid.

A half-brother to G1 winning filly Dancing Rags, Coup De Grace is out of Iowa Oaks third Home Court, a daughter of champions Storm Cat and Jewel Princess.

His foals include a really striking filly out of Proud Peyton (pictured below), a five time winning daughter of National Assembly who was second in the G3 SA Fillies Nursery.

Other striking foals from the first crop of Coup De Grace include this colt out of Sweet Aria (headline photo) (runner up in the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes and Listed Kwazulu Natal Stakes) and a filly out of the regally bred Three Blue Cranes (pictured left). The latter, four time winning daughter of Klawervlei’s late, great sire Captain Al, is a half-sister to five winners including Equus Champion and dual G1 winner Russian Sage and to last season’s Fillies Guineas winner Smiling Blue Eyes.

Coup De Grace’s damsire Storm Cat is enjoying increasing success as a damsire of sires, with his daughters having produced leading US sire Speightstown, successful stallion Sky Mesa, and Japan’s Leading First Crop Sire Lord Kanaloa.
