A HATRICK OF WINS FOR POMODORO SON

Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young stallion POMODORO (Jet Master) looks to have a smart sort on his hands in the form of ROYAL ITALIAN.

The latter, yet another high class runner to have emerged from his sire’s first crop, made it three wins in a row when Royal Italian downed LOPE DE VEGA gelding GREENWOOD DRIVE to score a cosy half-length win over 1500m at the Vaal on Thursday.
Ridden by Lyle Hewitson, the 3yo gelding had won his last two previous outings when successful over 1450m and 1400m respectively.

Bred by Highlands, Royal Italian was a very smart performer at two, when his efforts included a runner up finish in the Listed Storm Bird Stakes and a third place finish in the Listed Tattersalls Summer Juvenile Stakes (where he beat, among others, multiple graded stakes winner TWIST OF FATE and G1 Bidvest Majorca Stakes winner CLOUDS UNFOLD).

Like Pomodoro’s recent G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winning daughter RETURN FLIGHT and the sire’s R4 000 000 plus earner CIRILLO, Royal Italian is trained by Sean Tarry for owner Chris Van Niekerk.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, the multiple G1 winning Pomodoro could be on track for more success this weekend –his two-year-old son IMMEASURABLE is currently the favourite for Saturday’s Klawervlei Farm Sale Stakes at Durbanville.

The son of seven times champion sire JET MASTER has 13 lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 83) from the same family as Klawervlei’s exciting young sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD, and a full-sister (Lot 107) to the above mentioned Immeasurable.
