CAPTAIN AL FILLY WOWS ON DEBUT

Klawervlei Stud’s deceased champion sire CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti) has had a big year with his runners in 2018-2019, and the late, great stallion was responsible for yet another very impressive debut winner at the Vaal on Thursday afternoon.

His two-year-old daughter SCARLET TIGER, a R260 000 buy from last year’s Klawervlei Farm Sale, justified tote favouritism when romping home, in open company, first time out to score by four and a half lengths over 1000 metres.
Ridden to victory by Gavin Lerena, the Candice Dawson trained two-year-old is owned by Ralphs Racing and she was bred by Klawervlei Stud.

Scarlet Tiger, who is closely inbred to Lassie Dear, is the 15th juvenile winner this season for Captain Al, whose other 2yo winners in 2018-2019 include G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner MISS FLORIDA, Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner COUSIN LIZ and Perfect Promise Sprint winner AMY JOHNSON.

Captain Al, whose triple G1 winning son CAPTAIN OF ALL is currently one of South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sires, is currently leading South Africa’s Leading Sires of 2YOs list. Should he prevail, it will be the ninth time the champion has topped that premiership!
