Klawervlei’s much missed stallion CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti)’s progeny have been firing on all cylinders of late, and the former Cape Guineas winner was at it again at Turffontein on Saturday thanks to his son DOOSRA.

The latter, ridden by recent Sun Met winning jockey Anton Marcus, made it win number six when he landed the Listed Wolf Power 1600 on Saturday by a long neck from The Dazzler, who was receiving no less than 6kgs from the Captain Al sired winner.

Further back in running came the likes of the Count Dubois sired Equus Champion FRENCH NAVY and millionaire ROMANY PRINCE.

Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren for owners Jarryd, Laurence and Tessa Wernars, Doosra, who has now earned over R820 000 in prize money, had previously tasted black type success when he won the G3 Graham Beck Stakes back in 2016 where Doosra had accounted for the likes of G1 SA Classic winner HEAVENLY BLUE and subsequent Hong Kong Classic Cup hero SINGAPORE SLING.
The Varsfontein Stud bred gelding is bred on the same CAPTAIN AL/CAESOUR cross as G1 Paddock Stakes winner EMERALD COVE, G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas winner FIORELLA, and recent Swallow Stakes winner ALL AT ONCE.

Doosra joins the likes of THEREALSLIMSHADY, CAPTAIN ALDO and ARCTICA as past Wolf Power 1600 winners sired by Captain Al.

The latter, whose champion sprinter son CAPTAIN OF ALL was recently represented by his first winner as a sire, is also responsible for current stars KASIMIR (G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship, G2 Cape Merchants) and ONE WORLD (G2 Concorde Cup, CTS 1600).
