The blue blooded three-year-old TEMPUS (a close relative of Klawervlei Stud’s successful sire TWICE OVER), made an impressive 3yo debut when romping home at Wolverhampton on Tuesday.
Dispatched a 4-6 favourite for a maiden stakes over a mile and a half a furlong, the Roger Charlton trained Tempus made all to score an effortless two and three quarter length win.

Second at his only start (when beaten a head) at two, the Kingman colt made a big impression on jockey Jason Watson who said after the win, “He ran very green still, but has a lack of experience. He has plenty of ability and there is plenty more to come I’d say. He’s a lovely big stamp of a horse with a very good presence about him and did it very easily tonight. We like our horses to come on as the year goes on and this is only the start of it.”

A half-brother to four time group winner and National Stud sire TIME TEST, Tempus was produced by G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner PASSAGE OF TIME, whose granddam QUANDARY is also the second dam of European champion Twice Over.

The latter, whose 12 wins included four G1 triumphs, made a breathtaking start to his stud career, with Twice Over’s first crop producing the likes of Vodacom Durban July winning Equus Champion DO IT AGAIN, G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion hero SAND AND SEA and triple graded stakes winner, and 2019 July hope, DOUBLEMINT.

Twice Over, a dual winner of the G1 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes, also enjoyed success at the recent Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale where his yearlings made up to R1 100 000.
