KLAWERVLEI SIRES DOMINATE CAPE AWARDS

09 August 2019

Klawervlei Stud based stallions and their progeny dominated proceedings at Thursday night’s Cape Racing and Breeding Awards, which took place at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands.

TWICE OVER (Observatory)’s outstanding son DO IT AGAIN claimed no fewer than six awards on Thursday and was named both Cape Racing and Cape Breeding’s Horse Of The Year for 2018-2019. The dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, also victorious in both the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge last season, was also named Cape Breeders’ Champion Older Male and Champion Middle Distance Horse, with Do It Again also claiming Cape Racing awards as Older Male Of The Year and Champion Miler.

Bred by Northfields Stud, and racing for Bernard Kantor, Nick Jonsson and the estate of the late Jack Mitchell, the record breaking Do It Again is now clearly the front runner to be named South Africa’s Horse Of The Year at next week’s Equus Awards ceremony.

(Do It Again received further recognition of his ability when LONGINES rated him the highest rated South African racehorse this year on their World’s Best Racehorse Rankings between the period of January 1st and August 4th).

Klawervlei Stud’s late, great sire CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti) once again had a big impact on the Cape Racing and Breeding Awards ceremony.
Captain Al’s outstanding son KASIMIR (who looks set to be named Equus Champion Sprinter next week) was named both Cape Breeders and Cape Racing’s Champion Sprinter, while Captain Al’s multiple G1 winning daughter CELTIC SEA was honoured as Cape Breeders’ Champion 3YO Filly for 2018-2019.
(Kasimir and Celtic Sea recently finished first and second in the G1 Mercury Sprint, further highlighting the dominance of their outstanding sire).

Captain Al, also broodmare sire of the Cape Breeders’ Champion 2YO Colt EDEN ROC, is also the sire of the 2019 G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner MISS FLORIDA –who was crowned Cape Racing’s Champion 2YO Filly for 2018-2019.

Remarkably, Captain Al’s influence on Thursday’s award ceremony did not end there with his triple G1 winning son CAPTAIN OF ALL (South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2018-2019) named Cape Breeders’ Outstanding New Stallion for last season.
