Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young stallion POMODORO (Jet Master), the leading first crop sire in South Africa in 2017-2018, was once again back in the news this weekend when his brilliant daughter RETURN FLIGHT scored an impressive, front running win in the G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic at Turffontein on Saturday.

Return Flight, the Equus Champion 2YO Filly of last season, picked up the second G1 win of her nine-race career when accounting for the Exceed And Excel sired Fillies Guineas winner NAFAAYES by 0.8 of a length in Saturday’s R1.25 million race.

Bred by Mike Sharkey, Return Flight (unbeaten in two starts under jockey Anton Marcus) is trained by Sean Tarry and owned by Chris Van Niekerk, with that partnership having also campaigned Pomodoro with such success.

Return Flight, whose four wins also include the 2018 G1 Thekwini Stakes, took her earnings to R1 429 725 with her gallant win on Saturday.

This brilliant filly, whose dam was sired by SPECIAL PREVIEW, is not as yet the highest earner from Pomodoro’s first crop, with that honour belonging to the talented CIRILLO –with the latter having already banked more than R4.3 million in stakes money!

Out of Lake Coniston daughter MISS WORDSWORTH, the Riverton Stud bred Cirillo has already two big races to his name, with the Pomodoro colt having won both the CTS Ready To Run Stakes and CTS 1200 this season.

Other smart performers to have emerged from Pomodoro’s first crop include recent Aeolus OTR Kenilworth Cup runner up CEDAR MAN, the hatrick-seeking ROYAL ITALIAN, and impressive recent winner MY DREAM CHASER.

Winner of the 2012 G1 Vodacom Durban July, Pomodoro has 13 lots on offer at this month’s Cape Yearling Sale including a filly (Lot 36) out of a smart daughter of Australian champion sire/broodmare sire ENCOSTA DE LAGO, a colt (Lot 40) from the same family as top class performer IGREJA, a filly (Lot46) whose five time winning dam is a half-sister to talented G1 DANEHILL, HALO, MACHIAVELLIAN and NORTHERN DANCE
