POMODORO SON WINS R5 MILLION FEATURE

Klawervlei Stud’s hugely promising young stallion POMODORO (Jet Master) has made an exceptional start to his stud career, and the former July winner made headlines once again this weekend when his talented first crop son CIRILLO won the R5 000 000 CTS 1200 at Kenilworth on Sun Met day.

Trained and owned, like Pomodoro himself, by Sean Tarry and Chris Van Niekerk, Cirillo showed his class in no uncertain terms as he stormed home in Saturday’s 1200m sprint to collect the handsome first prize of R2.5 million by an emphatic 3.5 lengths.

The Riverton Stud colt was ridden to victory by Anton Marcus, who is now unbeaten in two starts aboard Cirillo.
One of the top two-year-olds in South Africa last season, Cirillo was winning his second big race this season, with the bay having triumphed in November’s CTS Ready To Run Stakes.

Unplaced just twice from 12 outings, Cirillo’s latest win took his earnings to over R4 million –a great return on his yearling purchase price of R300 000.

He is one of several standout performers produced in Pomodoro’s first crop, with others including the Equus Champion RETURN FLIGHT.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, Pomodoro had yearlings fetch up to R675 000 at the recent Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
