Klawervlei Stud’s increasingly successful stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) was once again to the fore at Kenilworth on Saturday when the four time G1 winner enjoyed a quick double, with Twice Over’s two winners headed by the impressive feature race winner RUN RED.

The latter became Twice Over’s latest stakes winner when he landed the Selangor Jet Master Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Trained by Andre Nel for owner-breeder Sabine Plattner, Run Red powered down the inside to score a one and a quarter length win in Saturday’s Listed feature, leaving the likes of graded stakes winners MILTON, BRAVE MOVE and OUR MATE ARTstruggling in his wake.

The four-year-old, now a three time winner, has been unplaced just twice in 12 starts.

The consistent Run Red, whose dam is by LIZARD ISLAND, is yet another high class performer to have emerged from Twice Over’s first crop. That crop is also responsible for Equus Champion and recent G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner DO IT AGAIN, G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion winner SAND AND SEA and triple graded stakes winner DOUBLEMINT.

European champion Twice Over was also responsible for LIBRA, who prevailed in a thrilling finish to Saturday’s fourth race, when scoring for trainer Justin Snaith, jockey Corne Orffer and owner-breeders Normandy Stud.

The classy Libra has now won five times, with the filly’s victories coming from 1200-1800 metres.

Her sire Twice Over was also responsible for MOON IN JUNE, who won a barrier trial at Greyville on Friday for trainers Robbie and Shannon Hill, and owner-breeder Bernard Kantor.

Well established as one of South Africa’s most in-form and exciting stallions, Twice Over has four lots on next month’s Cape Yearling Sale, with his draft including a filly (Lot 58) whose four time winning dam is a half-sister to G1 winner HAPPY LANDING, a filly (Lot 128) out of a 3 time winning daughter of US champion sire ELUSIVE QUALITY, and a filly (Lot 148) whose dam was a stakes placed winner of six.
