THURSDAY DOUBLE FOR TWICE OVER

Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) had a good day at Turffontein on Thursday afternoon, when the former European champion was responsible for two winners.

His Sean Tarry trained daughter OVER THE LIMIT gave Twice Over his first success on Thursday, when the lightly raced four-year-old scored a courageous win over 1200 metres for owners Chris Van Niekerk, and Mesdames Magnier and Nagle.
Under a great ride from in-form jockey Raymond Danielson, Over The Limit got up close home and scored a short-head in game fashion.

Out of a daughter of former Klawervlei sire NATIONAL EMBLEM, the Klawervlei Stud bred Over The Limit has now won or placed in seven of just ten starts.

Her sire also enjoyed success in Thursday’s ninth and final race, when his Tony Nassif trained daughter TWICE AS SPECIAL got off the mark.
Under title chasing jockey Warren Kennedy, the three-year-old Twice Over filly (also bred by Klawervlei) kept finding more and stayed on gamely to post a short-head win over 1800 metres for owners Messrs Whittle, J Nassif, G, K & M M Nassif.
Twice As Special has now won or placed in each of her last five starts.

Twice Over went close to enjoying a three-timer on Thursday with his son CATEGORY FOUR finishing a close up third in the fifth race at Turffontein.

The remarkable Twice Over, whose 12 wins included back to back scores in the G1 Champion Stakes, made a remarkable start to his stud career with his first crop including Horse Of The Year and dual Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN, G1 winning two-year-old SAND AND SEA and multiple graded stakes winner DOUBLEMINT.

(Do It Again was further honoured at the most recent unveiling of LONGINES World’s Best Rankings (for the period 1 January 2019 -8 September 2019) when named the highest rated South African thoroughbred in the world).
