TWICE OVER SON NAMED HORSE OF THE YEAR

Klawervlei Stud’s past and current sires dominated proceedings at Tuesday evening’s Equus Awards ceremony.
Klawervlei’s four time G1 winning sire, and former European Champion, TWICE OVER (Observatory) proved the star of this year’s Equus show, with his outstanding son DO IT AGAIN named Horse Of The Year, Champion Older Male, Champion Middle Distance Horse and Champion Miler.

The dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winning Do It Again, also victorious in both the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge last season, had previously tasted Equus honour last year when the Northfields Stud bred gelding was named Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding for 2017-2018. Bred by Northfields Stud, and racing for Bernard Kantor, Nick Jonsson and the estate of the late Jack Mitchell, Do It Again has already banked in excess of R8.4 million in prize money.

The brilliant Twice Over was not the only Klawervlei sire to make his mark at this year’s Equus Awards ceremony.
Klawervlei’s late, great CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti) is the sire of two of Tuesday night’s Equus Award winners –his daughter CELTIC SEA being named Champion 3YO Filly for 2018-2019 and his son KASIMIIR crowned South Africa’s Champion Sprinter for last season.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Antony and Angela Beck owned Celtic Sea won four times last season, with the Sean Tarry trained filly lifting the spoils in both the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes and G1 South African Fillies Sprint.

Drakenstein Stud are the breeders of champion sprinter Kasimir, who won four graded races last season, including both the G1 Mercury Sprint and G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship, for owners Messrs Drew & Kantor, Mesdames Doyle, Nagle, and Paul Shanahan.
