Klawervlei Stud’s red-hot young stallion CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) had a memorable double at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday, where his progeny SIMPLY RUSSIAN and SHANGO became his 11th and 12th first crop winners respectively.

The Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud bred Simply Russian powered home to get off the mark by a length and a quarter (while beating winners) in a juvenile plate for fillies over 1500 metres on Wednesday to kick off the Captain Of All double.
Trained by Garth Puller, and booted home by Antandiwe Mgudlwa, Simply Russian has now won or been placed in four of her five starts, with the filly’s placed efforts including a third to the CAPTAIN AL sired G1 winner MISS FLORIDA.

Simply Russian became the fourth winner since Thursday for Captain Of All, and the second in three days for her red-hot sire.

Remarkably, Captain Of All followed up in the very next race, when his promising son SHANGO got off the mark for trainer Sean Tarry, owners Chris Van Niekerk and Bruce Gardner and jockey Lyle Hewitson. Third in each of his first two starts, Shango showed his class by running on smartly to post a 0.6 of a length win over 1600m.
Bred by the Heritage Stud, Shango was a R425 000 buy from the 2018 CTS Ready To Run Sale.

One of South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sires (by stakes and by individual winners) this season, Captain Of All’s impressive first crop includes the stakes winners CAPTAIN ANNE BONNY (East Cape Fillies Nursery) and WHAT YOU ARE (Devon Air Stakes), with the latter having finished second in Saturday’s G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper.

A former Equus Champion Sprinter, and triple G1 winner, Captain Of All has nine lots on offer at the upcoming National 2YO Sale.
