WEEKEND FOUR TIMER FOR TWICE OVER

European champion, and increasingly successful sire, TWICE OVER (Observatory) had a weekend to remember this past week when the four time G1 winner was responsible for four individual winners.

Twice Over had a pair of winners on Friday, and followed up with two more of his progeny scoring the following day.

His first winner came when 3yo Twice Over filly OVER TAKING shed her maiden by a length and a quarter at Fairview on Friday for trainer Yvette Bremner, jockey Lyle Hewitson, and owner-breeder Stone Hill Stud.

The four time G1 winner’s second Friday success came when the Bernard Kantor bred and owned 3yo filly MOON IN JUNE made it back to back wins when victorious over 1800m at Greyville for trainers Robbie and Shannon Hill. The regally bred Moon In June has been ultra consistent and has now won or placed in each of her five starts.

On Saturday, trainer Sean Tarry sent out Twice Over’s 3yo gelded son DUOLOGY to score over 1400m at Turffontein for owners Bernard Kantor, Braam Van Huyssteen and Chris Van Niekerk. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Duology did well to win over a trip short of his best and he can still improve in time to come.

Twice Over’s fourth winner on the weekend came when his Geoff Woodruff trained son RETRO EFFECT scored over 1600m at Durbanville on Saturday for Messrs Fullard, Drew, Shawe, Van Wyk and Mrs Gabler. Another bred by Klawervlei, the 3yo Retro Effect has won or placed in seven of nine starts for his connections.

Twice Over made a superb start to his stud career, with the dual G1 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes winner’s first crop headed by the multiple G1 winning Equus Champion DO IT AGAIN, G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion winner SAND AND SEA, recent Jet Master Stakes winner RUN RED, and triple graded stakes winner DOUBLEMINT.

Without doubt one of South Africa’s most exciting stallions around, Twice Over has an exceptional draft on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, with his 19 lots including a colt (Lot 137) from the same female line as Saturday’s G1 Australian Derby winner ANGEL OF TRUTH, a half-brother (Lot 142) to Storm Bird Stakes winner FLYING MYTH and the very exciting VANDAH’S SPIRIT, and a filly (Lot 239) out of a stakes winning granddaughter of a French 1000 Guineas winner.
