South Africa’s reigning champion breeders, Klawervlei Stud, will be offering an exceptional draft at Wednesday’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Klawervlei will be offering 36 yearlings, and another 24 lots as agent, with their draft made up yearlings sired by such world leading stallions as Camelot, Frankel, Uncle Mo and Zoffany, as well as by the outstanding local stallions Captain Al, Dynasty, Silvano ,Trippi, Twice Over and Var, as well as the farm’s July winning stallion Pomodoro –South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire last season.

Klawervlei’s exciting and well performed Tapit horse Coup De Grace has 12 members of his first crop in the draft –including a half-brother to Equus Champion Seventh Plain, a filly out of champion filly Consensual (herself the dam of Equus Champion Just Sensual), and a colt out of the Galileo sired G3 Fillies Mile winner Sidera.

The farm also offer the perfect start to the Premier Sale when the first lot into the ring, consigned by Klawervlei as Agent, is none other than a full-sister to multiple Equus Champion and dual Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle.

The draft also features siblings to such high class performers as All Is Secret, The Secret Is Out, Thunder Dance, Like A Panther, Sting Operation, Paterfamilias, Desert Rhythm, and Oaks Trial winner Chariot Of Gold.

However, arguably the pick of this impressive draft is Lot 129 –a daughter of Klawervlei’s late Champion sire, and eight times Champion Sire of 2YOs, Captain Al. The latter, who was recently represented by his 92nd stakes winner, was one of the finest stallions ever bred in South Africa whose best performers include such Equus Champions as All Is Secret, Always In Charge, Captain Of All, Captain’s Lover ,Carry On Alice, Cloth Of Cloud, , as well as such outstanding G1 winners as Captain America, Captain’s Gal, Emerald Cove, Exhilaration, Hill Fifty Four, Pine Princess, Sergeant Hardy, Snowdance, Tap O’ Noth, The Secret Is Out and Undercover Agent.

Pagan Princess, the winning dam of this Captain Al filly, has already made mark as the dam of top class G1 winners Real Princess (G1 South African Fillies Sprint) and William Longsword. The latter, a full-brother to the filly on offer, was an exceptional racehorse whose six wins, from eight outings, included both the G1 Cape Guineas and CTS Mile. Now standing at Klawervlei Stud, William Longsword has since become one of the most popular young stallions in South Africa –and his eagerly awaited first yearlings go on sale in 2020.

The progeny of Pagan Princess, herself a Fort Wood half-sister to champions Victory Moon (himself, like Captain Al, a son of Al Mufti) and Kelly, has long found favour with buyers at the Premier Sale. Real Princess was a R2 700 000 buy from the 2013 Premier Sale, while William Longsword made R2 200 000 at the 2015 Cape Premier Sale.
Pagan Princess’ son Silver God was yet another of the mare to excel in the sales ring, as he made R2 000 000 at the 2016 Premier Yearling Sale.

The filly in question is bred on the same Captain Al/Fort Wood cross as the top class stakes winners Captain America, William Longsword, Wheredowego, Eighth Wall, Captain Splendid, Captain’s Flame, and Fragrant Al.

The sky is the limit for William Longsword and the same can be said for his sister!
