Klawervlei Stud’s exciting resident stallion POMODORO (Jet Master) stole the show at Kenilworth racecourse on Saturday when his Klawervlei Stud bred son RUSSIAN ROCK captured the G1 Cape Racing Presents The Cape Guineas (1600m) in scintillating fashion.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the flashy grey was given a superbly timed ride by Grant Behr, with Behr bringing RUSSIAN ROCK with a powerful late finish to get up close home and win by a neck going away!
A smart winner on debut, RUSSIAN ROCK (runner up in the Listed Sophomore Sprint back in August) joined a list of some outstanding champions when he claimed the 2020 Cape Guineas, while taking his earnings to over R500 000 in the process.
RUSSIAN ROCK, a R200 000 buy from the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, races for Ian Longmore, Bryn Ressell, and Marsh Shirtliff, and he is another tremendous prospect for his July winning sire!
The 2020 Cape Guineas proved a great triumph for Klawervlei stallions, with POMODORO responsible for the winner, and CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) sire of runner up LINEBACKER.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, POMODORO has some very exciting three-year-olds representing him this season, and he is also responsible for Saturday’s Secretariat Stakes third placegetter INDLAMU.
From the same family as unbeaten Secretariat Stakes winner PAISLEY PARK (Gimmethegreenlight), Pomodoro has 13 lots on the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
