South Africa’s reigning Champion Breeders, Klawervlei Stud, enjoyed some outstanding results at Sunday’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Not only did Klawervlei end the Premier Sale as Leading Vendors by Aggregate, but the farm’s G1 Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) ended proceedings as the Leading Sire by Aggregate at the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Klawervlei had 38 yearlings gross a total of R10.835 million, with the farm’s top lot, a TRIPPI (End Sweep) filly (Lot 106) who was knocked down to John Freeman for R800 000.
William Longsword, whose early runners include impressive winner SAFE RETURN, had 21 lots fetch R5.825 million, with his top lot being LORD WILLIAM (Lot 104), a Maine Chance Farms consigned colt who was knocked down to William Longsword’s former trainer Vaughan Marshall for R550 000.
Other Klawervlei stallions to enjoy notable success at this year’s Premier Sale include both POMODORO (Jet Master) and TWICE OVER (Observatory). The former, whose son CORNISH POMODORO ran second in Saturday’s Listed Drum Star Handicap, finished third on the Leading Sires by Aggregate List, with Pomodoro yearlings making up to R550 000.
Former European champion, and sire of dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN, Twice Over also made a splash, with his yearlings headed by TRIPLE TIME (Lot 3), a colt consigned by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm who was knocked down to John Freeman for R700 000.
