Klawervlei Stud’s successful, four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) looks to have some very promising two-year-olds this season, and the former European champion came up with another smart looking juvenile winner over the weekend.
Twice Over colt TEAM GOLD, a close up second on debut, went one better when getting off at just the second time of asking at Turffontein on Saturday.
Under Randall Simons, the Roy Magner trained Team Gold was always up with the pace, and he kicked away in the closing stages before staying on to score by just over three-parts of a length at the expense of promising first-timer ELMO (Capetown Noir).
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Team Gold, who races for Mr Barnard, was a R160 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale.
His sire Twice Over is also the sire of one of South Africa’s most promising two-year-olds seen out this season in the form of SMORGASBORD. The latter won impressively on debut before going on to finish a close up second, at his only other start, in the G2 4Racing SA Nursery.
A proven sire whose progeny include dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winning champion DO IT AGAIN, Twice Over has 12 yearlings on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale.
