Klawervlei Stud’s inform stallion and former G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, POMODORO (Jet Master) was responsible for a pair of winners at Turffontein on Sunday.
Pomodoro gelding POMELO kicked off the meeting when scoring over 1600m for Sam Mosia, Paul Peter and owner Colin Govindasamy.
The three-year-old Pomelo, who was bred by Rathmor Stud, was making just his second start, having been second and third in his two previous starts.
Pomodoro’s trainer Sean Tarry and owner Chris Van Niekerk look to have a smart sort on their hands in the form of Pomodoro’s three-year-old son INDLAMU.
The latter defied 60.5kgs when romping home to a clear-cut, two-length win, under a positive ride from Lyle Hewitson, over 1600m on Sunday.
Bred by Riverton Stud (who also bred Pomodoro’s top-class son CIRILLO), Indlamu had finished third in the Listed Secretariat Stakes earlier in the season, and the one-eyed colt has now won three of seven starts, with Indlamu yet to finish out of the money.
Already the sire of the G1 winners RETURN FLIGHT and RUSSIAN ROCK, Pomodoro has 19 lots on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and a further six lots on the KZN Yearling Sale.
