Blue-blooded filly REALLY ROYAL (Captain Al), a full-sister to Klawervlei Stud’s very exciting young sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD, caught the eye when winning a good race at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Under Louis Mxothwa, the Klawervlei Stud bred four-year-old fought out a thrilling duel with the very consistent RAIN IN NEWMARKET (Kingsbarns) over the closing stages of Saturday’s second race, before getting up to win by a short head.
It was a smart performance by the Justin Snaith trained Really Royal, who not only accounted for Rain In Newmarket but also the SNITZEL (Redoute’s Choice) sired debut winner STIPTELIK, and last season’s G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas third-place getter CHAT CHING (Duke Of Marmalade).
Winner of last season’s Listed World Sports Betting Sweet Chestnut Stakes, the imposing Really Royal races for owner Bjorn Nielsen. The filly was the top priced lot sold at the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where Really Royal was knocked down at R4 000 000.
She is one of four stakes winners produced by PAGAN PRINCESS (Fort Wood), whose G1 Cape Guineas winning son William Longsword has made such a pleasing start to his stud career.
