Klawervlei Stud’s four-time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) had a good afternoon at Kenilworth on Saturday with the former European champion supplying two eye catching winners on the card.
Twice Over’s first success on Saturday came when his daughter ISLE OF THE WINDS made much of the running to land the fourth race at Kenilworth, the Cape Racing Maiden Plate (1950m).
Under Grant Van Niekerk, the Alec Foster bred three-year-old, trained, like her sire’s dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winning son DO IT AGAIN, by Justin Snaith, pulled clear in the closing stages to win by two and a quarter lengths. Owned by Alec and Gillian Foster, the blue blooded Isle Of The Winds appeared to relish the step up in trip judging by the ease of her win on Saturday.
Twice Over is also the sire of the very promising three-year-old RESONATE, who caught the eye when running out an impressive winner of the sixth race at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Despite having to lug 61kgs, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained gelding outclassed his opponents when coming with a strong finish to win convincingly by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Resonate, who had contested the G3 Cape Classic last time out, has now won twice from just five starts for owners Mike Fullard and James Drew -and he won’t stop here!
Resonate is one of several smart three-year-olds representing Twice Over this season, with other notable Twice Over sophomores including G2 4Racing SA Nursery runner up SMORGASBORD, Listed Devon Air Stakes winner TWICE THE TRIP, and the progressive DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE.
Twice Over went on to enjoy further success at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, where his Gareth Van Zyl trained son RODRIGUEZ scored over 1600m for owner Mario Ferreira and jockey Craig Zackey.
