Klawervlei Stud’s bang in form sire TWICE OVER (Observatory), whose current flag bearers include impressive recent G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, made more headlines at Kenilworth on Saturday when his son DOUBLEMINT captured the G3 Okapi Chairman’s Cup.

It was a second win in the Chairman’s Cup for the talented Doublemint, with the Justin Snaith trained gelding having captured the same race back in 2020. Now a seven-year-old, the durable Doublemint was given a fine ride by Richard Fourie, who dropped his mount out to the back of the field, as ONE WAY TRAFFIC (Dynasty) set the pace in Saturday’s R250 000 feature. Fourie unleashed his mount close home, with Doublemint motoring home, from last, to win going away by a long neck from stablemate One Way Traffic.

Bred by Alec Foster, Doublemint, who races for Jonathan Snaith, has now won eight times, with the millionaire gelding’s triumphs including five graded victories.

His sire Twice Over has some very exciting three-year-olds to his name this season, including the aforementioned G1 winner Double Superlative and G3 Politician Stakes entrants SENSO UNICO (bred, like Doublemint, by Alec Foster) and BLIZZARD.

Also, sire of dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN, Twice Over has eight lots on the 2022 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and a further five lots on the Cape Yearling Sale.
