Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) has enjoyed a superb season in 2021-2022 and his great form continued over the weekend when Twice Over’s son SMORGASBORD captured Saturday’s G2 Senor Santa Stakes (1160m) at Turffontein.

Runner up in the 2021 G2 4Racing SA Nursery, Smorgasbord lived up to his connections’ high regard for him with a five-star display in the Senor Santa Stakes of 2022. Under Warren Kennedy, the Paul Peter trained gelding fought on gamely to account for G1 winning stablemates WARRIOR’S REST (What A Winter) and UNDER YOUR SPELL (Capetown Noir) by half a length and one length respectively.

Racing for the Wernars family in partnership with Harry Wilson, three-year-old Smorgasbord was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein.

The gelding, who has now won three of just eight starts, was a R460 000 buy from the 2020 National Yearling Sale.

He is one of a growing number of top-class horses to have emerged from Twice Over’s current crop of three-year-olds with others including G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, Listed Ibhayi Stakes victor RESONATE, Zimbabwe Guineas winner CALL THE WIND and the very talented SENSO UNICO.

Twice Over, whose three-year-olds have earned over R3 million this season thus far, has five lots on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, including a three-parts brother (Lot 205) to dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN (Twice Over).
