Top US sire UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie), whose high-class son ROYAL MO stands at Klawervlei, enjoyed an excellent day on Saturday.

Not only did Uncle Mo’s dual Breeders’ Cup winning son GOLDEN PAL capture Saturday’s G2 Shakertown Stakes at Keeneland, the sire was also responsible for Saturday’s G2 Wood Memorial Stakes winner MO DONEGAL.

Brilliant four-year-old Golden Pal put up a superb performance when making all to land the G2 Shakertown Stakes on Saturday.Though there was no real threat, Irad Ortiz Jr. decided to test out Golden Pal’s next gear at the top of the stretch and ended the rest of the field’s hopes of getting anywhere close to him with the colt having 4 ¾ lengths in hand when geared down.

It was the sixth victory in nine starts for the Wesley Ward-trained Golden Pal, who has only finished out of the top two once in his career. This is the third straight victory for the bay, who ended last season with a victory in the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.

Golden Pal’s paternal half-brother Mo Donegal provided Uncle Mo with a notable graded race double on Saturday when defying a tardy start to win the G2 Wood Memorial impressively.

Joel Rosario didn’t panic, letting the colt gallop comfortably with just one horse beat from his spot on the rail. That position quickly changed as they entered the turn and Rosario let him show his best. Weaving through the field, by the top of the stretch, he was behind just two others and he wasn’t done yet.

In the final furlong, he found another gear to nip the winner on the wire and win by a neck for Donegal Racing. Already a winner of the Grade II Remsen, his win in that race became even more impressive 15 minutes after the Wood when Remsen runner up Zandon won the Grade I Blue Grass Stakes.

Mo Donegal, a second Wood Memorial winner for his sire following OUTWORK, is one of 79 stakes winners for his sire, whose progeny have earned over $189 million thus far.
