Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire TWICE OVER (Observatory) has enjoyed a wonderful season in 2021-2022, and the former European champion came up with yet another smart winner when his son HAMMIES HERO made a winning debut on Saturday.

Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson (who also conditions Twice Over’s Ibhayi Stakes winning son RESONATE), Hammies Hero caught the eye when winning the first race at Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon.

Under Devin Ashby, two-year-old Hammies Hero powered home late on to get up close home and land Saturday’s Property Decoded Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) by a length and a quarter -with another first-timer son of Twice Over, DOUBLING UP, also catching the eye by taking second spot.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Hammies Hero races for the Greenacres Trust in partnership with Bryn Ressell.

The colt is bred on the same Twice Over/Jet Master cross as this season’s G1 Cape Guineas winner DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE. (The latter’s dam is a full-sister to the dam of Hammies Hero).

Twice Over is also the sire of multiple stakes winning filly YOUNG LOVE, who ran a game race when finishing second, to her stablemate, in Saturday’s G3 Econorisk Final Fling Stakes. Classy three-year-old Young Love had earlier this season captured both the Listed WSB Sweet Chestnut Stakes and Listed WSB River Jetez Stakes.

Responsible for this season’s graded stakes winners DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, SMORGASBBORD and DO IT AGAIN, Twice Over has two lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
