Klawervlei Stud’s Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has been in good form of late, and the Klawervlei homebred bay struck twice at Durbanville on Tuesday afternoon.

William Longsword filly BETTY BOOP caught the eye when she broke her maiden when victorious in Tuesday’s Hollywoodbets Grooms Initiative FM 71 Handicap (1400m) in smart fashion. One of three winners on the day for trainer Justin Snaith, the Klawervlei Stud bred three-year-old powered home down the inside of the Durbanville track to win going away by nearly half a length, while accounting for the very promising GOLD POKER GAME (Gold Standard).

Owned by Nick Jonsson and Bernard Kantor, the blue blooded Betty Boop was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

William Longsword is also sire of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, who downed some promising sorts when he won the seventh race at Durbanville on Tuesday afternoon. Trained, like William Longsword and Captain Al, by Vaughan Marshall, Pineapple Express was given a fine ride by S’Manga Khumalo to land Tuesday’s Cape Racing Classified Stakes (1600m). Another winner bred by Klawervlei, Pineapple Express powered away in the closing stages to beat ROYAL MO’s promising son ROYAL PORT LOUIS by a length and a quarter. The gelding races for Mr W J van der Merwe & Klawervlei Stud.

By the same sire as South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year CAPTAIN’S RANSOM, William Longsword has nine lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Ready To Run &2YO Unbroken Sale.
