Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning sire CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) looks to have come up with another smart three-year-old this season in the form of CAPTAIN CASEY.
The latter justified favouritism when winning a good race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.
Third, behind TWICE OVER’s very exciting son SEE IT AGAIN and champion CANADIAN SUMMER (Oratorio) in the recent Listed Model Man Mile, Captain Casey was duly all the rage for the tabgold-The Intelligent Bet! Graduation Plate (1600m) and duly obliged. Always travelling nicely, Captain Casey hit the front 100m from home and kept finding more to win a shade cosily by nearly a length and a quarter.
Winning jockey Sean Veale was quick to label Captain Casey as a “proper horse” after the win, while trainer Tony Rivalland is hoping to run the colt in the upcoming Listed Christmas Handicap.
Bred by Clifton Stud, Captain Casey (who races in the famous Mary Liley silks) has now won won or placed in five of his six starts and he looks to be a smart sort in the making.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2018-2019, and already sire of the likes of LINEBACKER, SHANGO and SPRINGS OF CARMEL, Captain Of All has some very smart three-year-olds to his name this season.
His other notable sophomores in 2022-2023 include speedy filly KISS ME CAPTAIN and Need For Speed Sprint winner TROMPIE. The latter also caught the eye when finishing a close up third in the recent Listed Sophomore Sprint, and Trompie looks on course for a bright season this year.
