Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winning stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) looks to have another smart two-year-old to his name in the form of ICE STAR.
ICE STAR made a cracking start to her racing career when she made a winning debut at the Vaal on Tuesday afternoon.
Under Chase Maujean, the whitefaced Ice Star showed plenty of courage when prevailing in a thrilling three horse finish to land Tuesday’s Racehorse Owners Association Juvenile Plate (1000m) by a neck.
Trained by Fabian Habib, the filly was bred by Lammerskraal Stud.
Ice Star races for Tri-Deal Sixteen CC (Nom: Mr Z L Nassif), Messrs M G Bothma, Andre Fouche, G, K & M M Nassif, G J Nassif, J Nassif & S H Pieterse.
Her sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD, himself a winner of six of just eight starts, has some very smart juveniles representing him this season.
Other promising two-year-olds by William Longsword include the impressive debut winner DUMBLEDORE and KUPHOLIWE, who ran third on debut at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last Saturday.
William Longsword, whose G1 winning half-sister produced this season’s G2 Cape Merchants winner GIMME A PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight), is currently higher than the likes of ELUSIVE FORT (Fort Wood), RAFEEF (Redoute’s Choice) and FUTURA (Dynasty) on the South African General Sires List for 2022-2023.
