Klawervlei Stud’s resident Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has made a strong start to 2023, and he was at it again on Tuesday when William Longsword was responsible for two smart looking winners at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
William Longsword’s three-year-old daughter KENNEDY kicked off Tuesday’s racemeeting when she won the first race on the card, the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1000m). Third on her only previous start, the Andre Nel trained filly was given a well judged ride by Grant Van Niekerk, who kept Kennedy going nicely in the closing stages of Tuesday’s race to win a shade cosily by half a length. Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, the cleverly named Kennedy is owned by Sabine Plattner.
William Longsword’s second success on Tuesday came when his Klawervlei Stud bred daughter BETTY BOOP flew up late to land the Follow Cape Racing On Social Media FM 81 Handicap (1400m) in exciting fashion. Under an inform Richard Fourie, the Justin Snaith trained filly powered home down the inside of the track to get up and score by a long neck.
Owned by Nick Jonsson and Bernard Kantor, the blue blooded Betty Boop had accounted for the classy GOLD POKER GAME (Gold Standard) when she won her first race.
The son of Captain Al is also enjoying a good spell with his two-year-olds this season, with William Longsword responsible for three runners in the recent Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes.
William Longsword also received a handsome boost to his pedigree page when close relative GIMME A PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight) captured the recent G1 Pongracz Cape Flying Championship. The latter, also victorious in this season’s G2 Cape Merchants, is out of William Longsword’s G1 winning half-sister REAL PRINCESS (Trippi).
