Klawervlei Stud’s homebred Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has enjoyed a cracking run of success of late and he came up with another feature race winner when his progressive three-year-old son LORD WILLIAM ran out a ready winner of the Listed World Sports Betting Sledgehammer (1750m) run at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

Third in the Listed Kings Cup last time out, the Glen Kotzen trained Lord William claimed his first feature race win with a game display on Sunday. Under Ashton Arries, the gelded Lord William came with a perfectly time run to hit the front close home and stayed on gamely to win the 2023 WSB Sledgehammer by half a length over two-year-old rival FLYING BULL (Soft Falling Rain).

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Lord William races for Messrs CD Mitchell and JE Mitchell.

Third in both the G3 World Sports Betting Langerman and Listed TAB Somerset 1200 at two, Lord William has now won three times from 12 starts and he looks unlikely to stop here. His inform sire William Longsword also enjoyed feature race success when his blue blooded daughter VIRGINIA SWEET captured the recent Listed East Cape Oaks.

A half-brother to the G1 winning dam of this season’s G1 Pongracz Cape Flying Championship winner GIMME A PRINCE (Gimmethegreenlight), William Longsword has four lots on offer at this week’s National Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 46) out of Oaks Trial winner SALUTATION (Requiem) and a full-brother (Lot 89) to Listed Secretariat Stakes victress BON VIVANT.
