Klawervlei Stud’s ever reliable, G1 Vodacom Durban July winning sire POMODORO (Jet Master) had a fine time of things last week, when the son of Jet Master was responsible for five winners. During that same period, Pomodoro had more winners than the likes of GIMMETHEGREENLIGHT (More Than Ready), DYNASTY (Fort Wood) and RAFEEF (Redoute’s Choice), to name but a few.
Pomodoro, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, kicked off his successful stint when his classy son TCHAIKOVSKY won a cracking race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday, before Pomodoro dominated racing at the Vaal on Thursday.
Not only did Pomodoro supply three winners at the Vaal last Thursday, including the promising RIVER ROMEO, his daughters HAVE A PARTY, SECRET RECIPE and IMPRESSION ran first, second and fourth respectively in the sixth race on the card.
Pomodoro ended the week on a high note with his son SCALLYWAG ran out a courageous winner of the second race run at Turffontein on Sunday. The Tony Peter trained three-year-old showed plenty of heart when breaking his maiden over 1450m for Denis Schwarz and owner Suzette Viljoen. Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Scallywag beat yet another son of Pomodoro, AMERICAN GRAYSON, into third place in Sunday’s race.
Pomodoro’s 2020 G1 Cape Racing Presents The Cape Guineas winning son RUSSIAN ROCK also caught the eye when finishing a close up second in a pinnacle stakes over 1600m on Saturday, where Russian Rock accounted for, among others, former Horse Of The Year DO IT AGAIN (Twice Over), and G1 TAB The Premier’s Champions Challenge victor ASTRIX (Vercingetorix).
Also sire of champion RETURN FLIGHT and fellow graded stakes winners BLACK THORN, CIRILLO and GOLDEN BELLE, Pomodoro has seven yearlings on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Mixed Winter Sale.
