Klawervlei Stud’s multiple G1 winning stallion, and proven source of speed, CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) has had a wonderful week or so, and his great run continued when his classy son TROMPIE won a good race at the Vaal on Tuesday afternoon.

Trained by Brett Crawford, three-year-old Trompie was always prominent in Tuesday’s Book A Table Call 011 681 1796 Middle Stakes (1000m) and kicked on nicely, under Kabelo Matsunyane, to score comfortably by a length and a half.

It was a smart win by Trompie, who was still green in running, and there looks to be plenty more to come from a horse described by his connections as a  “big baby”, with Trompie conceding plenty of weight to older rivals in Tuesday’s contest.

The colt, fitted with a tongue tie for Tuesday’s race, has now won three times, with Trompie having also finished third in the G3 Europa Point Man O’War Sprint earlier in the season.

Bred by Beaumont Stud, Trompie, a colt with a phenomanal temperament, races for Messrs Gujadhur and Rod Mattheyse.

Captain Of All went close to having a double at the Vaal on Tuesday, with his two-year-old son KING RAHUL (bred, like Captain Of All, by Riverton Stud) running a cracking race to finish second in the first race on the card.

Also sire of Sunday’s eye catching two-year-old winner CAPTAIN ARROW, Captain Of All has eight yearlings on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Winter Mixed Sale and six lots on offer at the 2023 KZN Yearling Sale.
