Klawervlei’s inform stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has made a cracking start to the 2023-2024 season, and the former Cape Guineas winner struck yet again when supplying a pair of winners at Fairview on Friday.

His flashy daughter IMPRESSIVE NESSIE got the ball rolling for William Longsword when she ran out a convincing winner of the first race at Fairview on Friday, the Betway Tote Rewards Club Maiden Plate (F and M). Under Muzi Yeni, the three-year-old kicked away in the closing stages to break her maiden impressively for trainer Kelly Mitchley and owners Messrs P Naicker, S C Meadows & E G van den Berg.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Impressive Nessie was making just her second start in Port Elizabeth on Friday, with the filly having finished fourth last time out.

William Longsword struck again in the very next race, when his son RED WILLIAM romped home to claim the Betway Boost Open Maiden as he liked. Under Raymond Danielson, the Glen Kotzen trained gelding outclassed his rivals, as Red William stormed home to score by seven and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Stone Hill Stud, Red William, who had finished second at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time out, races for Mesdames R B Mardon & L M R Matthysen.

Willliam Longsword had also enjoyed success at the Vaal on Thursday when his daughter ANNEWITHAN E romped home to break her maiden by a facile eight lengths.

The Klawervlei resident, whose son BRAVE VIKING holds an entry in the R5 000 000 G1 Betway Summer Cup, has five lots on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale, including a half-brother (Lot 40) to Ready To Run Stakes winner FIFTY FIVER (Vercingetorix).
