Klawervlei Stud’s inform Cape Guineas winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) enjoyed more success this season when his two-year-old daughter FROSTY RECEPTION made a winning debut at Fairview on Friday.
Trained by Sharon Kotzen, Frosty Reception showed plenty of pace, under Louis Mxothwa, and kicked on nicely to win the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) convincingly by half a length.
Bred by Greenacres Trust in partnership with Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, the two-year-old races for Messrs N J W Deetlefs, G M Kotzen, K B Larsen, Mesdames D Jithoo & Sharon Kotzen.
She is the second two-year-old winner, from just a handful of runners, for William Longsword this season. The sire’s two-year-old daughter GOLDEN CHANDELIER had won well at Turffontein last month, with Golden Chandelier having finished third to the exciting ALMOND SEA (Canford Cliffs) previously.
Himself a brilliant performer who won six of his eight starts, William Longsword is having a fantastic season in 2023-2024, and, at the time of writing, sits fifth on South Africa’s General Sires List.
His flagbearers this season include brilliant G1 World Pool Cape Flying Championship winner DYCE, exciting three-year-old WILLIAM IRON ARM and G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint winner RULERSHIP.
