Klawervlei Stud’s G1 winning sire WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) has been in scintillating form of late, with the former Cape Guineas winner having produced a bucketload of winners already this season, and William Longsword struck again twice over the past weekend.
William Longsword filly ROSE OF BAYEUX made it three wins in a row when she won a good race at Fairview on Friday. The Duncan McKenzie trained four-year-old simply outclassed her rivals, as Rose Of Bayeuex stormed home to score by two and a half lengths on Friday. The uber consistent Rose Of Bayeux, who has won or finished in the money in five of her last six starts, races for Mr Morgan Govender.
Bred by Basil Marcus, Rose Of Bayeux has now won or been placed in nine races and she won’t stop here!
William Longsword also looks to have a promising three-year-old on his hands in the form of the Riverton Stud bred MELECH. The latter, runner up on his only previous start, justified tote favouritism when he ran out a clear-cut, one and a quarter length winner of Saturday’s TAB4Racing Maiden Plate (1160m), run on the Betway Summer Cup undercard.
Trained by Roy Magner (who described the winner as a smart little horse), Melech, a three-parts brother to the useful CAPTAIN OUPIE (Captain Of All), races for John Finlayson.
William Longsword’s legendary sire CAPTAIN AL also made headlines this weekend, albeit as a broodmare sire. Also damsire of Klawervlei’s exciting new sire prospect KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort), Captain Al daughters SOLAR VOYAGER and SEMINOLE were responsible for Saturday’s G3 Joburg Tourism Magnolia Handicap winner ALULA’S STAR (Red Ray) and G3 Betway Merchants winner VARS VICKY (Var) respectively.
