Outstanding US stallion UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie), whose top-class son ROYAL MO stands at Klawervlei, was once again in the headlines this weekend.
Uncle Mo’s brilliant son GOLDEN PAL picked up his second Breeders’ Cup win when he landed Saturday’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar.
In the process, the Wesley Ward trained colt became Uncle Mo’s 10th G1 winner, with Uncle Mo having sired top level winners from from five furlongs on the turf to one and a quarter miles on the dirt in the Grade I Kentucky Derby.
One of just a handful of horses thus far to have won two Breeders’ Cup races, Golden Pal (victorious in last year’s G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint), shot from the gate in the five furlong race and it was all but a foregone conclusion he was the race winner. In the end, Golden Pal equaled the :54.75 Del Mar track record, with multiple graded stakes winner LIEUTENANT DAN (Grazen) a well beaten second.
The brilliant colt has now won five of just eight starts for earnings of over $1.2 million.
Winner of the G3 Robert. B Lewis Stakes and third in the G1 Santa Anita Derby, Uncle Mo’s son ROYAL MO has his first two-year-olds race this season.
