Klawervlei Stud bred thoroughbreds dominated the finish to Saturday’s G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Not only was the race won by the Klawervlei bred SILVER OPERATOR (Silvano), Drill Hall runner up was none other than the Klawervlei Stud bred former G1 The Cape Guineas winner RUSSIAN ROCK (Pomodoro), while Drill Hall third place-getter SMORGASBORD is a son of Klawervlei Stud’s red hot sire TWICE OVER (Observatory).
RUSSIAN ROCK, who was beaten just a long head when second on Saturday, ran a great race in defeat and Pomodoro’s G1 winning son looks set for a profitable season in KwaZulu-Natal this year! However, the 2022 Drill Hall Stakes belonged to the Vaughan Marshall trained Silver Operator.
The latter, who relishes 1400m, claimed the second graded race of his career when digging down deep under Richard Fourie to score a courageous win for stalwart owners Rikesh Sewgoolam and Ken Truter.
A five-year-old son of Silvano and former Swallow Stakes winner STING OPERATION (Captain Al), Silver Operator has now won six times with his previous triumphs including a score in the 2019 G3 Cape Classic.
Saturday’s Drill Hall Stakes winner, who had captured the Listed Jet Master Stakes two starts back, was a R700 000 buy from the 2018 April Yearling Sale.
