Klawervlei Stud’s promising young stallion ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) struck it big at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday when his first-crop son ROYAL AUSSIE ran out a convincing winner of the R7 500 000 World Sports Betting Gold Rush (1600m).
An eye catching fourth in the G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas last time out, the Justin Snaith trained Royal Aussie attracted plenty of support for Saturday’s big race with Royal Aussie sent off a 33-10 shot. Under a well-judged ride from Richard Fourie, the classy three-year-old raced just off the pace for much of the race, before being set alight in the home straight.
From there, Royal Aussie stayed on gamely to hold off a sustained challenge from the fast finishing DAVE THE KING (Global View) and went on to score by half a length.
It was a good race for Klawervlei sires, with the farm’s homebred Cape Guineas winner WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) responsible for Gold Rush third-place finisher ITSRAININGWILLIAM.
Bred by Klawervlei, Royal Aussie claimed the R5 000 000 first prize for owners Dane Squance, Suzette Viljoen and Dr Warner.
The uber-consistent Royal Aussie has now won three of eight starts for earnings of R5 291 050.
He hails from his G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes winning sire Royal Mo’s small first crop, with this crop having produced five winners from just 11 runners.
Royal Mo is himself a son of outstanding sire UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie) -sire of Saturday’s impressive G3 Southwest Stakes winner ARABIAN KNIGHT. Now unbeaten in two starts, Arabian Knight showed his dominance in the Southwest Stakes, with the colt powering clear to score by five and a half lengths.
