Klawervlei Stud’s triple G1 winning stallion CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) looks to have produced a truly top-class three-year-old this season in the form of LINEBACKER.

The latter picked up his second consecutive graded win when he scored a convincing victory in Sunday’s G2 World Sports Betting Guineas (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

Trained by Vaughan Marshall (who also saddled Guineas runner up Seeking The Stars), Linebacker came into Sunday’s race off an impressive win in the G1 Jonsson Workwear Cape Derby, and the Captain Of All gelding confirmed his Derby win with a brilliant effort in Sunday’s World Sports Betting Guineas.

Under inform jockey Grant Van Niekerk, Linebacker stormed through late on to get up and win by just over half a length, while accounting for some of South Africa’s most talented three-year-olds.

Owned by Cheryl Gabler and Ken and Jane Truter, Linebacker was a R425 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

He is yet to finish out of the top two in seven starts, with Linebacker’s runner up efforts including a second, to the Klawervlei Stud bred Russian Rock, in this season’s G1 Cape Racing Presents The Cape Guineas.

The 2021 World Sports Betting Guineas proved a triumph for Klawervlei, who not only bred Linebacker but also Guineas second SEEKING THE STARS (Vercingetorix), Guineas third KOMMETDIEDING (Elusive Fort) and Guineas fourth RUSSIAN ROCK (Pomodoro).

By the same sire as Sunday’s brilliant G2 World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas winner CAPTAIN’S RANSOM (Captain Al), Captain Of All also has a number of smart two-year-olds this season -including CAPTAIN’S RUN, who ran third in Saturday’s G2 4Racing SA Nursery.
