Klawervlei Stud’s increasingly successful sire, and former G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, POMODORO (Jet Master) enjoyed notable success at Kenilworth on Saturday when his two-year-old daughter EPSOM GIRL captured the G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery over 1200 metres. Trained, and owned, by Piet Steyn, Epsom Girl was given a fine, front running ride by Richard Fourie. Fourie kept his charge going, with Epsom Girl responding gamely in the closing stages of the R200 000 feature to score a shade cosily by half a length.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Epsom Girl has now won two of just three starts (she was fourth on debut) and she looks another fine flagbearer for her sire Pomodoro.
Epsom Girl was a bargain R15 000 buy from the 2021 CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and she has already earned in excess of R170 000.
Her sire POMODORO, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, is no stranger to siring high-class fillies, with his other notable daughters including Equus Champion RETURN FLIGHT, G2 World Sports Betting Camellia Stakes heroine GOLDEN BELLE, and the stakes winning two-year-old CARALLUMA.
Pomodoro has enjoyed another good spell of late, with his other notable representatives including the eye catching winners BLACK THORN, POMODORO’S JET and impressive debut winner RETURN TO RUSSIA.
