Fresh off supplying Saturday’s G3 World Sports Betting Legal Eagle Stakes winner ITSRAININGWILLIAM, Klawervlei Stud’s bang inform stallion William Longsword struck again when supplying two smart looking winners at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Monday.
William Longsword’s first success on Monday came when his two-year-old son FIBONACCI stayed on nicely to claim the third race, the TAB Juvenile Plate run over 1400 metres. Under a well judged ride from Sean Veale, the Vaughan Marshall trained colt, who benefitted from a blinkers strike on Monday, kept finding more in the closing stages and stayed on strongly to score by nearly three-parts of a length. It was a smart win from the Drakenstein Stud-bred colt, with Fibonacci having finished third last time out.
Fibonacci, who races for the Steyn family, is the fifth two-year-old winner for William Longsword this season.
Vaughan and Sean also teamed up to win with another son of William Longsword, in the form of ENSUING, on Monday afternoon. Bred by Laurence Wernars, three-year-old Ensuing caught the eye when winning in soft conditions he did not particularly like. Under a strong ride from Sean Veale, the William Longsword gelding powered home to land the Call Telebet Track MR 86 Handicap (1200m) by nearly a length and a quarter.
Owned by Rikesh Sewgoolam, Ensuing has now won four times, with the sophomore having finished second last time out.
William Longsword, who will be represented in Saturday’s G1 Woolavington by his Listed East Cape Oaks winning daughter VIRGINIA SWEET, has had a wonderful season in 2022-2023 thus far. At the time of writing, the Klawervlei bred and based sire is South Africa’s second Leading Sire of 3YOs, by stakes, this season, with William Longsword higher on that premiership than such star stallions as MASTER OF MY FATE (Jet Master), THE UNITED STATES (Galileo), QUERARI (Oasis Dream), WHAT A WINTER (Western Winter) and VERCINGETORIX (Silvano).
