Klawervlei Stud’s graded stakes winning sire ROYAL MO (Uncle Mo) made it two winners from his last three runners when his son RIGHT ROYAL MO won at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, three-year-old Right Royal Mo got off the mark at the fourth time of asking on Wednesday when he stormed home to land the Cape Turf Club Open Maiden by nearly half a length. Under a positive ride from Gareth Wright, the Klawervlei bred colt kept finding in the closing stages to win a shade cosily. Owned by Greenacres Trust in partnership with Ken and Jane Truter, Right Royal Mo had finished fourth over 1200m last time out.
His G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes winning sire Royal Mo had also enjoyed success on Monday when his son MATSUYAMO (his sire’s only runner on the day) powered home to score at Fairview. Another runner by Royal Mo, KITTY MO, finished second at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday afternoon.
Royal Mo is the only son of outstanding sire UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie) at stud in South Africa. Uncle Mo has had another wonderful year as both a sire and sire of sires in 2023.
The brilliant Ashford Stud resident has been responsible for 13 stakes winners this year alone, with Uncle Mo stars in 2023 headed by the G1 winners ADARE MANOR (Clement L. Hirsch Stakes) and A MO REAY (Beholder Mile Stakes).
Uncle Mo sire sons NYQUIST, MO TOWN, and OUTWORK have also all been responsible for at least one graded stakes winner this year, with Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist enjoying notable success. Among Nyquist’s stars of 2023 are RANDOMIZED (G1 Alabama Stakes) and CRIMSON ADVOCATE (G2 Queen Mary Stakes).
