CHAMPION SPRINTER DOMINATES CAPE FEATURE

Klawervlei Stud’s exciting young sire CAPTAIN OF ALL (Captain Al) continues to impress, and the former Equus Champion enjoyed a notable double on Saturday.

Captain Of All sons CARTEL CAPTAIN and GOLDEN TRACTOR finished first and second in Saturday’s Need For Speed Handicap, and another son of the sire, SULLENBERGER, romped home to a clear cut win at Turffontein on the same day.

(Captain Of All also had no fewer than four runners finish second on Saturday, with his son INDY GO catching the eye when finishing a close second to talented filly SIDONIE at Turffontein).

The Klawervlei Stud bred Cartel Captain, trained, like Captain Of All himself, by Dennis Drier, picked up his first feature race win when he scored a one and a quarter length win over Golden Tractor in Saturday’s Need For Speed Handicap.

Owned by Messrs M B Pitman, M R Collins, D S Pitman, Mr M G Drier, Miss C S Drier and Mrs Drier, Cartel Captain has now won two of only five starts, with the gelding having contested both the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion (a race won previously by Captain Of All himself) and G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe as a two-year-old.

Captain Of All’s son Sullenberger added to his sire’s tally when romping home to a facile 1.75 length win over 1000m for trainer Ashley Fortune at Turffontein on Saturday. Bred by David Allan, Sullenberger (second in each of his two previous starts) races for owner Harry Govender.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2018-2019, Captain Of All made a stunning start to his stud career with his early winners headed by G2 TAB/Betting World Dingaans winner SHANGO and fellow stakes winners CAPTAIN ANNE BONNY and WHAT YOU ARE.

The triple G1 winning son of CAPTAIN AL has nine lots on offer at the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
