Klawervlei Stud’s much missed champion sire CAPTAIN AL (Al Mufti) made a big impression over the weekend, when three of his two-year-olds (all unbeaten) scored very smart wins.

Captain Al’s son CAPTAIN OF STEALTH is one of the most exciting two-year-olds in South Africa at the moment, and the Klawervlei Stud bred made two impressive wins from two starts when making all to score by six lengths at Durbanville on Saturday.
Under jockey MJ Byleveld, the striking colt made all to score over 1400m as he liked for owners Messrs Freestone and Habib, and Captain Of Stealth, a likely Langerman contender, has won two races by an aggregate of 11.5 lengths.

A R500 000 buy from the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, the Peter van Schoor bred Captain Of Stealth is trained by Vaughan Marshall who not only trained Captain Al himself but has also trained such Captain Al sired stars as ALL IS SECRET, HILL FIFTY FOUR, THE SECRET IS OUT, WILLIAM LONGSWORD, ONE WORLD and TAP O’NOTH.

Saturday also saw Captain Al filly VICTORIA PAIGE made a stunning, winning debut at Turffontein when landing the R250 000 HSH Princess Charlene Of Monaco Maiden Plate (against older rivals) for trainer Sean Tarry and owner Chris Van Niekerk. Despite not being well in at the weights, and being slow into stride, the Ascot Stud bred Victoria Paige produced an impressive turn of foot to mow down her older rivals and score a two and a half length win at the first time of asking. The blue blooded Victoria Paige was a R600 000 buy from last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Trainer Justin Snaith, the conditioner of Captain Al sired G1 winners KASIMIR, SNOWDANCE and CAPTAIN’S LOVER, looks to have a very smart filly on his hands in the form of SOMEWHERE IN TIME. The latter made it two wins from as many outings when scoring a courageous win over 1200m at Scottsville on Sunday for owner Nick Jonsson. Bred by the Normandy Stud, Somewhere In Time looks destined for bigger and better things!

A multiple champion sire in South Africa, and eight times champion sire of 2yos, Captain Al continues to make his mark after his death, with his current stars headed by G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship hero KASIMIR and R3 million plus earner ONE WORLD. Another son, the triple G1 winning Equus Champion CAPTAIN OF ALL, is currently one of South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sires for 2018-2019.

Captain Al has 16 lots on offer at this month’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, including a colt (Lot 11) bred on the same cross as CAPTAIN OF STEALTH, a colt (Lot 61) out of the WESTERN WINTER sired G1 winner Covenant, and a full-brother (Lot 218) to the multiple G1 winner SNOWDANCE.
