Klawervlei Stud’s July winning stallion POMODORO (Jet Master) made the perfect start with his latest crop of two-year-olds when his very first juvenile runner for the 2020-2021 season made a winning debut at Kenilworth on Wednesday.
His son BARZALONA showed a smart turn of foot when powering home to victory in the first juvenile race in the Western Cape for the new season.

Under Grant Van Niekerk, Barzalona stormed home to score by a length and a half over 900m, despite being very green, and there should be plenty more to come from him. The Klawervlei Stud bred colt, who races for Mr & Mrs Langevin, is trained by Candice Bass-Robinson.

His sire Pomodoro, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, is no stranger to siring top-class two-year-olds with his daughter, RETURN FLIGHT, named Equus Champion 2YO Filly of 2017-2018.

Pomodoro has 13 lots on January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, including a colt (Lot 89) out of G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge winner INTERGALACTIC (Kahal), and a colt (Lot 124) out of G3 Sycamore Sprint winner MYFUNNYVALENTINE (Captain Al). The latter is bred on the same Pomodoro/Captain Al cross as the aforementioned Barzalona!
