Klawervlei Stud’s inform Cape Guineas winning stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) had a day to remember on Thursday when William Longsword supplied four winners at the Vaal.
Remarkably, William Longsword sired runners won all three of the first three races run at the Vaal on Thursday.
Promising two-year-old LONGSWORD, who holds an entry for the G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes, provided his red-hot sire with his first success on Thursday when he ran out a convincing winner of the first race, the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1400m), on Thursday. Under Calvin Habib, the Sean Tarry trained colt was always up with the pace in Thursday’s race, and, when asked the question, quickened up smartly in the closing stages to draw off and win convincingly by a length and a quarter. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, and racing for Bernard Kantor and Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd, Longsword had caught the eye when finishing second prior to his win on Thursday.
William Longsword is also the sire of the very promising filly JUST BE LEKKER, who maintained her unbeaten record when she landed the second race, the 4Racing Thanks And Appreciates David Nieuwenhuizen Racing Juvenile Plate (1200m), on Thursday. The Candice Dawson trained two-year-old, a smart winner of her only previous start, showed her class when romping home to make it two wins from two starts with a two-and-a-quarter length triumph on Thursday. Bred and owned by Ralphs Racing, Just Be Lekker holds entries in the G2 @worldpool Twitter Umkhomazi Stakes and G2 World Pool With Gold Circle Debutante.
Remarkably, William Longsword is also the sire of Thursday’s third race winner at the Vaal, with the Klawervlei Stud resident’s son BACK IN BUSINESS landing the 4Racing Thanks And Appreciates Tony Peter Racing Stable Graduation Plate (1200m) in emphatic fashion. Under S’Manga Khumalo, the recently gelded three-year-old made it three wins from just four starts, when striding clear to score by a length and a quarter for trainer Joe Soma and owners ANOA (Pty) Ltd. Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Back In Business had won his first two starts before finishing a creditable third, to subsequent G1 Daily News 2000 runner up DAVE THE KING (Global View), on his only other start prior to Thursday’s win. He looks like a potentially very smart performer indeed.
Yet another son of William Longsword to catch the eye at the Vaal was the Riverton Stud-bred MELECH, who downed a top-class field when victorious in the afternoon’s sixth race, the Book A Table Call 0116811796 Pinnacle Stakes (1700m). The John Finlayson-owned three-year-old flew up late to get up, under Muzi Yeni, and score by a short-head, while downing POMODORO (Jet Master)’s gallant son INDLAMU (also bred by Riverton). Trained by Roy Magner, the progressive MELECH, who finished less than five lengths off the brilliant CHARLES DICKENS (Trippi) in the G2 World Sports Betting Guineas), has now won four of just six starts and he looks to be yet another exciting prospect for his sensational sire!
