Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) has made a fine start to the new season.
The former European champion came up with two eye-catching winners at Durbanville on Saturday, with his sons MELIORA and SENSO UNICO winning the third and fourth races on the card respectively.
Trained by Glen Puller, Meliora showed plenty of his sire’s courage and determination when running out a ready winner over 2400m. Under Richard Fourie, the Drakenstein Stud bred gelding made much of the running, and, despite looking beaten close home, fought back courageously to land his fifth career win by a short head. Bred on the same Twice Over/Spectrum cross as the Drakenstein bred G1 winner Sand And Sea, Meliora races for Messrs P Barrett, F M Carruthers, R C Marais, G R Puller and Ian Robinson.
Twice Over’s three-year-old son Senso Unico made a big impression on Saturday when romping home to break his maiden by three and a quarter lengths. Ridden to victory by Anton Marcus, the Vaughan Marshall trained colt had finished a close up fourth on debut before finishing third on his only other start and Senso Unico looks a progressive sort in the making. The Twice Over colt was bred by Alec Foster who races him in partnership with Gillian Foster.
A proven sire, whose progeny include the likes of dual G1 Vodacom Durban July winner DO IT AGAIN, G1 winning two-year-old SAND AND SEA and R3 million plus earner INVIDIA. Twice Over has nine lots on the upcoming CTS Ready To Run Sale and a further two slots on the 2021 November Two Year Old Sale.
