Klawervlei’s four-time G1 winning stallion TWICE OVER (Observatory) had a notable double on Saturday, with his son DOUBLE MARTINI victorious at the Vaal and his
daughter STARBOARD scoring at Kenilworth.
The Sabine Plattner bred and owned filly Starboard caught the eye when romping home to break her maiden impressively on Cape Town Met day this weekend.
Trained by Andre Nel, and ridden to victory by Grant Van Niekerk, the three-year-old filly justified tote favouritism when romping home to shed her maiden by three and a quarter lengths on Saturday.
Second in her two previous starts, Starboard simply outclassed her rivals and she looks a potentially smart filly in the making.
Twice Over’s second success on Saturday came when his Sean Tarry trained son Double Martini got off the mark at the Vaal. Under a fine ride from Lyle Hewitson, the Klawervlei Stud bred Double Martini kept going gamely to break his maiden by three-parts of a length, with a courageous effort over 1600m.
Second on his penultimate start, Double Martini is owned by Chris Van Niekerk.
European champion Twice Over, who went close to having a trio of winners on Saturday with his four-time graded stakes-winning son DOUBLEMINT finishing a close up second at Kenilworth, has ten lots on the Cape Yearling Sale, and a further 11 lots on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
