Klawervlei Stud’s inform G1 Cape Guineas winning stallion WILLIAM LONGSWORD (Captain Al) is having a fantastic season this year, and the Klawervlei Stud bred and based resident sire struck yet again when his two-year-old son WILLIAM IRON ARM ran out an eye catching winner at Turffontein on Tuesday afternoon.

Third on his only previous outing, the Alec Laird trained William Iron Arm showed an appreciation for the step up to 1600m in Tuesday’s Betontab.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate with a convincing display.

Under Craig Zackey, the William Longsword colt was quickly away in Tuesday’s race and was up with the speed early on. When asked the question, William Iron Arm kicked on gamely and stayed on nicely to hold off a promising first-timer in the form of DHONI (Pomodoro) to score by nearly half a length.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, William Iron Arm races for The Playgate SA partnership.

He is the fourth two-year-old winner this season for his sire, whose other juveniles include the very promising KUPHOLIWE and feature race contender DUMBLEDORE.

William Longsword has had a fine season in 2022-2023 with his other flagbearers including LORD WILLIAM (WSB Sledgehammer) and VIRGINIA SWEET (East Cape Oaks), as well as the likes of ITSRAINING WILIAM (3rd G3 WSB Variety Club Mile) and LET IT SNOW (3rd G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes).

The stallion, whose progeny have earned more than R7.019 million in stakes this season thus far, has eight yearlings on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Winter Mixed Sale.
